Lakes of Interest

Caspian Lake

Caspian Lake has been a popular summer vacation site for many years. During the summer months the population of picturesque Greensboro, Vt expands greatly. There is a public beach with an ice cream stand right down the street. The lake is beautiful and lined with summer camps, many which have been owned by families for generations. The lake is cold and 142 feet deep making it the ideal place to catch rainbow and brook trout.

Crystal Lake

Crystal Lake State Park offers a nice swimming beach, a large granite bathhouse with flush toilets, changing areas and a concession stand. Picnicking opportunities include 40 free standing charcoal grills, nearly 80 picnic tables, a playground and lots of parking space. The fishing is excellent at Crystal Lake. The deep cold waters offer an opportunity to catch rainbow trout, lake trout, yellow perch, chain pickerel, smallmouth bass and panfish. Cross-country skiing permitted in winter by walking around entrance gate.

Echo Lake

Echo Lake is one of the quietest and best kept secrets near our northern border.  The clarity of the sky at night gives rare glimpses into the galaxy and when the lake is calm, it mirrors back the bright stars.  The best northern lights viewing anywhere in Vermont is on the shores of Echo Lake where the vast northern sky is visible.  Wildlife is abundant in and around the lake, including the osprey, loons, kingfisher, orioles, swallows, bats and purple martins; and all the insects they feed on.  Most people who’ve tried it say the fishing is better than average and there is little competition.  A large tract of lakefront property is in conservation easements and there is limited development potential in land around the lake due to its remote location.  Outdoor enthusiasts are drawn to this cold, wild place.

Lake Eligo

Public beach is available for use in the summer months. Fish species include Rainbow and Lake Trout. Scenic lake for canoeing and boating.

Holland Pond

Tucked deep into the hills of the Northeast Kingdom is Holland Pond. It is a vast and remote pond, larger than many bodies of water in the area that are called lakes. It's beauty lies in the fact that it is so wild and untainted by development. Its waters provide great fishing particularly for Rainbow and Brook Trout.

Island Pond

Island Pond, is the "Gateway to the Silvio O. Conte National Fish and Wildlife Refuge Nulhegan Basin." The surrounding area offers breathtaking views and a diversity of activities year round, including mountain biking, cycling, camping, fishing, hiking, hunting, skiing, bird watching, snowmobiling, snowshoeing, wildlife viewing, and more. If it is swimming, boating, sailing, or canoeing, Island Pond and the Northeast Kingdom is the place to be. While the Northeast Kingdom is 1.3 million acres in size, its human population is extremely low. Moose, deer, bear and other wildlife are prevalent in our area and one should be watchful for them.

Lake Memphramagog

Lake Memphremagog (Lac Memphrémagog in Quebec) is a fresh water glacial lake located between Newport, Vermont, United States and Magog, Quebec, Canada. The lake is 32 miles long with 73 percent of the lake's surface area in Quebec, where it drains into the Magog River. However, three-quarters of its watershed, 489 square miles, is inVermont. The total is 687 square miles, with 198 square miles located in Quebec. The watershed in Vermont is largely agricultural and forest land with residential development increasing in recent years in both Vermont and Quebec. The lake has 20 islands.

Lake Parker

Lake Parker has no public beach so the only access to the lake is by boat. There are some camps availble for rent around the lake. It is a smaller lake so larger boats tend to head to Crystal or Willoughby Lake. The West village Glover Village has an excellent pizza restaraunt and pub that makes any excursion to Lake Parker worth the trip.

Lake Salem

The swimming and boating is excellent and for the fisherman, Lake Salem is one of the cleanest lakes in Vermont. Lake Salem has pickerel, walleye, fresh water salmon, bass, lake trout. In winter, the ice fishing is excellent.

Seymour Lake

Seymour Lake holds the 2002 record for the largest lake trout caught in the state of Vermont. It was 27.05 lbs and was caught by Stanton Parker. There is also excellent fishing for Brook, Brown and Lake Trout and landlocked salmon. As one of the largest lakes in the area it it excellent for larger boats.

Shadow Lake

Located off of rote 16 in south of Glover, Shadow Lake is a serene and beautiful spot. It has a public beach with parking and outhouses. It is a very polular place in the summer months as the lake is nearly surround by camps. A great place for boating and fishing for Brook, Rainbow, and Lake Trout.

Lake Willoughby

Willoughby State Forest encompasses 7,300 acres in the northern area of Vermont. Lake Willoughby boasts 1,653 acres plentiful with rainbow trout, lake trout, brown trout, landlocked salmon and yellow perch. The South Trail is well known, offering sweeping views from Mt. Pisgah over to Mt. Hor and beyond. Viewing the nesting peregrine falcons and alpine plant life is enjoyed along the Willoughby Cliffs.
